The performance overpasses the bounds of Arthur Bispo do Rosário’s embroidery, writings and other works in order to create the medley of arms and bodies which embroider the choreography. Electric wires and filaments of incandescent lamps merge with choreographic lines and the scrap of the dancer’s work, which serves as base for the construction of the piece. The setting and light designs arise from the tangle of the memory of things, the inventories of the world and its collections, the repetitions which reverberate anonymity. Light and shadow, insanity and memory are represented through the setting and light designs. The costumes were inspired by the way that patients in Juliano Moreira Psychiatric Hospital used to dress for local balls. The clothes were mostly made from discarded cloths. Similar to Bispo’s works, the pieces are embroidered with texts, words and inventories.

18 photos by João Millet Meirelles form this exhibition, which recreates the story of Companhia Viladança through four performances of its repertoire, all choreographed and directed by Cristina Castro. These are: José ULISSES da Silva (2002), Da Ponta da Língua à Ponta do Pé (2004), Aroeira - Com Quantos Nós se Faz uma Árvore (2006) and Habitat - Lat 13°S Long 38°31'12''O (2008). The images surpass simple registration; exceed the documentary quality of the works in order to form an authorial result, with its own expressivity. From the tension which exists in the act of registering (to make fixed, immovable) and ephemeral, transitory and liquid quality of gestures, the photographer constructs a poetic view over the scenes, showing his intimate and yet keen look.

The visual artists who form the group will promote two different activities during VIVADANÇA. The first one will be an outdoor wall painting at the access ramp to Teatro Vila Velha. This intervention aims at constructing a visual unity using patterns with the reproduction of a single element, an avatar inspired by the Neocreatures Project. Invited artists will make free interferences over these elements, in a composition which will transform the wall of the ramp leading to the theater into dancing wallpaper, using a diversity of colors, textures and playful imagination. The second activity will be a group exhibition at the theater’s exhibition areas (indoor), with will combine works made by the artists who took part on the first activity, extending it and making it possible to exchange ideas between both projects.

The performance Punto Ciego is about the incapacity of seeing, feeling and understanding things, as well as the possibility of perceiving as real things which don’t exist. The choreography is about blindness caused not only by a physical condition, but also by the lack of sensitivity in people with perfect eyesight. The blind spot is a region of the retina insensitive to light, that is, where images are not formed. The performance shows a journey between the real and imagined experiences of three characters, who meet exactly at this invisibility spot. Different environments are created based on cellist Hildur Guônadóttir’s songs and on Ricardo Miluy’s conception of sound space, aiming at finding profound secrets.

The show involves a wide range of activities, such as breakdance, graffitti and DJ workshops, a market of hip hop products, jam sessions, discussions, exhibitions and rap concerts. But the highlight of the program is the Breakdance Competition, which gathers hundreds of b.boys, b.girls and fans in an exciting challenge where the greatest winner is breakdance itself.

During the program's 3 years, many artists and hip hop professionals have taken part in its activities, such as breakdance pioneer in Brazil, Nelson Triunfo (São Paulo / Brazil), rapper Big Richard (São Paulo / Brazil), DJ Bandido (Bahia / Brazil), rapper Dexter (São Paulo / Brazil), b.boys Banks (São Paulo / Brazil) and Crazy Luffy (Ceará / Brazil), b.girl Weedja (Pernambuco / Brazil), and the always present partner DJ Branco (Bahia / Brazil), who broadcasts live his radio program Evolução Hip Hop directly from the festival.
